Delheim Edelspatz Late Harvest
Delheim is an eco-friendly, family run estate consisting of two properties based in the area of Simonsberg in Stellenbosch. The estate is a mix of pine forest, heath-like shrub land and vineyards, which at 150 ha make up almost half of the land. The vineyards, which sit at elevations between 300 - 500 metres, are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinotage, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Gewurztraminer and (Rhine) Riesling. The soil is predominantly sandy-loam and the yields are low at an average of 6 - 8 tonnes per ha.
Reg Holder the winemaker is a great fan of this region of Stellenbosch. He feels it is ideally suited to the classic grape varieties planted in the vineyards. To him, respecting the terroir and planting the correct varietal is a top priority and expressing the character of the region is the ultimate goal. From good vineyard management through to such things as the right choice of oak in the winery it is important to remember that wine is a living thing which will continue to evolve long after bottling. So it is important to be true to the varietal, the terroir and the future.
Being one of the best noble rot vintages in over a decade, the wine shows classic botrytis characteristics on the nose and complimented with honey suckle, dried peaches and marmalade.
The wine has a perfect balance between sugar and acid, layered with bright fruit and orange blossom
