Zenato Ripassa Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore
TASTING NOTE
This is a stormingly good wine and has been an instant hit in store at Whitmore & White. Intense ruby red in colour and packed with lovely sun-blushed red fruit flavours and a hint of almond. The palate is full bodied and velvety smooth. One of the best Ripassos you'll find at this price. 85% Corvina, 10% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta.
ABOUT THE PRODUCER
A close relation to Amarone, Ripassa takes its name from the ancient process of Ripasso, literally meaning repassed. After the Valpolicella is fermented, it is put into vessels recently vacated by the Amarone. The wine soaked skins and lees that remain in these vessels initiate a slight refermentation, subsequently increasing both the alcohol and body of the wine. Once passed through the skins and lees, the wine remains in the tank for 6 months and is then aged in small oak barrels for 18-24 months.
The vineyards cover 75 hectares in the Zenato estate of S. Cristina in San Benedetto di Lugana, ideal for the Trebbiano di Lugana, and in the Costalunga estate in Valpolicella, the homeland of the famous Amarone Zenato, where the renowned vines Corvina, Rondinella and Oseleta are cultivated.
