TASTING NOTE

This is a very pretty, pale salmon coloured Rose made entirely from red grapes. It has delicate floral aromas with red cherries and a strawberries and cream top note. On the palate it has lovely texture, crisp acidity, and appealing traces of cherries, strawberries and spices. It is a medium bodied, quite dry wine, very elegant and refined, with great balance and soft tannins. The long, lingering, spicy finish is particularly appealing.

ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Riverby Estate is a boutique wine estate. It occupies a prime site in Marlborough's Jacksons Road area, being situated next door to iconic winery Cloudy Bay. In 1989 vines were first planted and grapes are now grown on the estate vineyard by descendants of the Matthews family, who have been farming the property for over 100 years. The land was originally used for cropping and sheep farming. Now over 70 hectares are planted out in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Pinot Gris, Semillon, Syrah and Gruner Veltliner.

The Matthews farm was called Riverby and the original property, shown on the Sauvignon Blanc back label, is still in use today. The Riverby name originated from the Opawa River and its tributaries, which meandered through the property. In the 1930s, the river was diverted to avert flooding in the area. The rainbow trout on the Riverby label is a symbol of the fish that used to swim where grapes are now grown.

Previously Riverby exported wool to the world, now it is wine spreading the Riverby name far and wide. Markets have already grown to include the USA, UK, Canada, China, Japan and Singapore, as well as original major market, Australia.

We at Whitmore & White are massive fans of the Riverby Estate wines and you'll find a comprehensive selection on our shelves.
