Tasting Note

All the character of Madiran without the tannic pain that traditionally came with Tannat from this part of south-west France. Full-bodied with smooth tannins, ferrous freshness and aromas and flavours of violet, plum, spice, vanilla, smoke and liquorice. Good with beef, game or lamb shanks. An eye-catching label too.

About the Producer

On the pilgrim road to Compostela, deep in south-west France, Pierre Dabadie's family have been making wine in Viella for generations.  Now with 16 hectares of vines managed with a focus on sustainability, the harvest is hand picked and hand sorted before vinification.  The soils are clay loam with gravel and the best grapes are from the south facing slopes which are mainly planted with tannat, as well as cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon.  A range of white wines are produced, including the top cuvée, Talion, based on petit courbu, with no added sulphites.
