We're thrilled to say that Wild Fizz Kombucha is now available at Whitmore & White in Heswall and Frodsham! If you've been paying attention to pretty much anything lately, the word Kombucha will be familiar to you already, hailed to be the next big thing and countless stories of numerous health benefits. So what is it, who are Wild Fizz and how do they make it taste so good?
What is Kombucha?
Kombucha is a fermented drink made from green sencha tea mixed with bacteria and yeast, and has been around for a couple of thousand years. Its origins lie in China, first recorded in 221BC during the Tsin Dynasty. Back then it was known as The Tea of Immortality and was known to be good for digestion and the immune system. The name Kombucha, or "booch" once you're friends, came later on, originating in Japan in around 415AD. So it's been around quite some time! How is Kombucha made?
Kombucha is made by mixing green or black tea with something called a SCOBY, that's a symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast and sugar, which kicks off the fermentation process. This lovely little carnival of bacteria and yeast produces the Kombucha, which can then be flavoured. We picked two great flavours, Ginger and Turmeric, and Blood Orange, Grapefruit and Lime. Don't let the process put you off (it's no different to how a good beer is made after all) these are both delicious and pretty good for you too by all accounts! Is Kombucha good for me?
Kombucha is full of probiotics, which top up the good bacteria in your gut, boosting your ability to keep healthy & fit. It is also antioxidant rich, which helps to prevent many diseases whilst aiding in the detoxification process of the liver.Who makes Wild Fizz Kombucha?
Gina Geoghegan
We chose Wild Fizz because of the story leading to its creation, and because it was some of the tastiest we had tried (Jamie has been a fan a while). Wild Fizz is made by Gina Geoghegan and her husband in Totenham, London. After discovering Kombucha during a trip to the US, Gina found it to reduce her IBS symptoms, having a transformative impact on her life. After huge amounts of experimenting at home, Gina took the leap and took her creation to market and so Wild Fizz was born, giving us a truly delicious, organic, low-sugar Kombucha!
