Graham's Cheese Moment - Perl Wen
Perl Wen is a soft and creamy Welsh cheese produced at the Caws Cenarth Dairy Farm in Pontseli, Camarthenshire. It all began 30 years ago when Gwynfor and Thelma Adams had to diversify from a straight dairy farm and began making cheese. Today the operation is run by their son Carwyn and a range of cheeses are now available, including the classic Caws Cenarth Caerphilly and a creamy blue Perl Las.
The Perl Wen is a Brie-style of cheese made from cow's milk and using vegetarian rennet. It is not as aromatic (okay, smelly) as Brie, but has a similar texture and the creamy nature of Caerphilly with a hint of sea salt in the background. it is incredibly popular in Heswall and goes down very well when used with canapés on tasting evenings. Try it with our Fine Cheese Co Chive Crackers for a great cheese and cracker combination.
Or, for the ultimate in Welsh gooey wonder, wrap thickly in leek leaves, push some garlic through the rind and bake for 15 minutes in a clay dish for a delicious fondue. Iechyd da!
